Dog policies on the natural lands
beginning May 1, 2025
The Preserve continues to warmly welcome visitors and their dogs to our natural lands. After a great deal of study and thought, we are implementing new policies to better protect the visitor experience and the environment.
New Policies
Little Long Pond
May 1 through September 30
Dogs must be leashed between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Hunters Cliffs
Dogs must always be leashed.
Harbor Brook Trail
No dogs are permitted.
Existing policies that will stay the same:
-
Allow dogs off-leash only if they are under voice control.
-
Keep off-leash dogs in sight at all times.
-
Allow dogs to swim only in the four designated water access areas.
-
Pick up dog waste and dispose in proper receptacles.
-
Be considerate of others using the lands who do not want to interact with dogs.
-
Keep dogs clear of horses and horse-drawn carriage to keep horses, dogs, and people safe.
-
Be aware of the boundaries with Acadia National Park. Dogs must always be leashed in the Park.
-
Pets are not allowed in any of the Preserve gardens except service animals (as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act) and must be leashed.
