Webinar: Managing Hemlock Woolly Adelgid on MDI with Tate Bushell, Colleen Teerling, Jesse Wheeler, and Billy Helprin
This online presentation was held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 HWA is an invasive insect forest pest, native to Asia, which has devastated hemlock forests in the southern Appalachian region. It has been moving north since its accidental introduction in the 1950s and has recently been confirmed in multiple hemlock stands on MDI. The webinar presenters are working together on a multi-pronged approach to mitigate the impact of HWA on land they manage and on private properties. This talk looks at HWA and its effects on the environment, what we are doing on MDI, and most importantly, what you can do about HWA on your property. Presenters: Tate Bushell, Director of Natural Lands at the Preserve, Billy Helprin, Director of the Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary, Colleen Teerling, Forest Entomologist, Maine Forest Service, and Jesse Wheeler, Vegetation Program Manager at Acadia National Park.
