Spring is my favorite season

There are so many things to love about spring: warmer temperatures, longer days, early flowers, and being able to garden again. Even though our gardens are currently closed, recently I have started peeking behind the garden gates each week to see the progress of the season.

The snow and ice have almost fully melted, and the fuzzy flower buds of the magnolias are swollen with the anticipation of spring. Asticou Azalea Garden opens for the season on May 7 so the gardeners have just over a month to prepare for opening day. I cannot wait for the garden to come to life with our team returning to work and the plants beginning their floral displays.

Thuya Garden opens in mid-June and the Abby Garden in mid-July, so Asticou Azalea is our garden for spring with the flowering cherries, azaleas, and rhododendron. After the long, cold winter of Maine, spring is by far my favorite season, the time when the garden reawakens.
