This summer, we are excited to unveil enhanced access to one of the Preserve’s most stunning natural landscapes. A new 12-car parking lot has been constructed along Route 3 in Seal Harbor to serve the Day Mountain, Hunters Cliffs, and Hunters Beach trails. Designed with safety in mind, this new lot replaces the old “Day Mountain” parking area, which required pedestrians to cross a dangerous blind curve. The decommissioned lot has been carefully revegetated with native trees and shrubs, allowing it to return to forest over time.

From the new lot—located just 1,000 feet east of the old one—visitors can now enjoy safer road crossing and direct access to a revitalized trail system.

New trail segments, built by our Natural Lands team, wind through forest and coastal terrain, linking Day Mountain to Hunters Cliffs and the Hunters Beach trailhead on Cooksey Road. Carefully constructed stone staircases guide hikers up rocky slopes, revealing expansive ocean views.

The entire network is now passable and ready for exploration, with ongoing improvements planned throughout the 2025 season. Whether you are discovering it for the first time or returning to a favorite trail, Hunters Cliffs now offers a safer, more beautiful way to connect with the land.
